When describing the photographic style of Danny Lerner, it is not relevant to consider theory or category. It is, rather, a free-fall journey into the senses: a bright, soft, natural, voyage to a magical spot. His approach is clean and minimalist, sprinkled with a pinch of innocence.
A graduate of Jerusalem’s Bezalel Academy of Art & Design, Danny Lerner is one of the top professionals in the Israeli market. Based in Tel Aviv for the last fifteen years, he has worked for Israel’s major food companies and magazines. Considered a specialist in foods of the region (Mediterranean, Middle Eastern, Jewish, Arabic) he enjoys and excels in working with foods from all corners of the world.
When Danny is not shooting for local food manufacturers and ad agencies, he is photographing dishes for LaIsha, a prominent Israeli women’s magazine. Often he is on assignment, perhaps in a vineyard or a boutique cheese maker. Or he might just be enjoying some playtime, experimenting with different shots and food just for fun in an intimate test shot session. He has photographed seven very successful Israeli cookbooks, featuring among other themes, Jewish holiday dishes, stuffed foods, the art of baking and children’s recipes.
When he can get away, Danny loves to travel and search for the essence of cultures different from his own. Upcoming projects include: photographing Caribbean cuisine and lifestyle, teaming up with an international food writer, and joining the staff of a US Jewish food magazine.
